Circus Circus

Bigger, more bigger and more curiouser
Microsoft is working on a new in house ai model. This model is reportedly “far-larger” than any other open source model they have trained.
The new model, MAI-1, is expected to have about 500 billion parameters which makes it larger than ChatGPT 3 but significantly smaller than the recently released ChatGPT 4 which estimates put at around 1.7 trillion parameters.
What are parameters? They are the number of weights used to train large language models that help them predict the next token in a sequence.
That is what these large language models do in a nutshell; predict the answer to a question by using sequencing measures to predict the most probable outcome; aka the answer to closest to what it thinks you are looking for.
There is a bit of a competitive circus going on here
Microsoft is nipping at the heels of Open Ai’s LLM, while Open Ai is now coming for the behemoth Google search. Open Ai has announced plans to release a search product, although we are not yet sure when the release date will be. Meanwhile, Apple seems to be watching like a hawk from the sidelines waiting to see how this all shakes out, and in true Apple fashion I predict they will release an insightful, functionally curated product, that will integrate itself seamlessly across all its devices.
When labels matter
TikTok is starting to automatically label AI-generated content that was made on other platforms, the company announced on Thursday. With this change, if a creator posts content on TikTok that was created with a service like OpenAI’s DALL·E 3, it will automatically have an “AI-generated” label attached to it to notify viewers that it was created with AI.
Tik Tok already requires creators to disclose when they are posting content that has been created or enhanced with ai. The new policy will include Content Credentials for ai generated content created on the platform. Content Credentials are going to become more and more common as we continue to ride the wave of ai generated content flooding our digital feeds.
This comes as a real blow to me personally because I want so badly to hate Tik Tok but we have to give credit where credit is due and this is a really solid move on the part of this company. 👏
You asked, we listened!
The results of the poll are in and it sounds like you are all as interested in wellness as I am! The Camelot newsletter will begin focusing on providing wellness content to help us all live our very best lives.
We will be taking a short break next week for a little reprogramming but will return with a revamped website - so that you can access past content, search by topic and enjoy a new and improved newsletter focusing on wellness and culture.
In other news…
Nearly two years after the failed cryptocurrency exchange collapsed, investors are expected to receive all of the money they lost plus interest. FTX’s bankruptcy lawyers said the company recovered enough money (around $14 billion) to pay most of its customers back in the coming months.
Google DeepMind has unveiled the latest version of its artificial intelligence model designed to help scientists understand the human body. AlphaFold 3 can help predict the shapes of proteins and the interactions of DNA and RNA. Scientists say the technology could help speed up the development of new drugs and vaccines. Still, the AI model’s accuracy varies and some have reportedly raised concerns as to whether such technology could be used to create things like bioweapons.
Turkeys and Angels
Every week brings new and exciting antics! Here I nominate one Turkey; a squawky or nefarious critter deserving of the “You are a Turkey” moniker. Because we must always bring balance to the force, an Angel will additionally be recognized for bringing laughter, love or all around goodness to the world.
Only good vibes this week 😀
This week’s Angel: Miles the “unadoptable” dog and his owner Christine
The adorable dog that no one wanted because of his aggressive behavior just needed a chance...and after one kind woman gave him one, he's on the verge of becoming a Westminster dog show superstar.
Miles, a feisty rescue mutt, began his career as an agility dog after jumping into the ring at a horseback riding class taught by his owner. She realized his potential and began training him in the agility ring. Turns out he was a natural and all that energy was put to good use! He will be competing for the second time at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, in Queens this weekend.

At the end of the day we all just need someone to believe in us and find our place in the world, just like Miles.
