4th of July Pie...crumbs

Today our share of the pie is just a crumb

Hello courtesans of Camelot! It’s the 4th of July and it’s time to light up the fireworks. I am about to go off like a sparkly little bundle of C4 blazing high into the sky, so get ready!

While the rest of America is donning their most patriotic red, white and blue ultimate ‘Merican attire, preparing banquets of Oscar Meyer’s finest complimented by sumptuous tubs of Costco potato salad; I am here, typing away, mad as a hatter.

I came across a statistic this week the sentiment of which I have felt even before I read the number. It resonated so deeply that I felt it in my bones. It was the cold shudder of truth.

Less than one percent of venture capital funding allocated in 2024 went to solo female founders. 0.7% to be exact.

Based on the latest data from 2024, the percentage of venture capital funding that went to women-founded companies varies depending on how you categorize it:

Companies founded exclusively by women: Just 0.7% of VC funding in the U.S. went to companies founded exclusively by women in 2024. Wait, what!? Yes. This number is down from an already brutally low 2% the previous year and the lowest percentage since record keeping began in 2013. The gender gap just keeps getting worse.

Companies with female co-founders: The picture shifts a bit when including companies with women as co-founders. Female founder’s share of total US VC deal value declined from 20.8 percent in 2023 to 19.9 percent in 2024. However, women founders with male co-founders raised $38.8 billion in funding in the U.S. in 2024, up 27% from the year before. So, I suppose the moral of the story here is that women need to find suitable male chaperones before entering this tech dystopia?

This has to change ⚡️ We need more solo female founders in tech! 🔥

And so it is time to make an announcement. I have been working on a mobile app for the past several months that I will be releasing to the US market later this year. It’s a passion project of mine, born out of personal need and desire.

This is news for many of you… I will hold for applause… 👏 👏 … thank you! I am over the moon excited to be able to announce this project and bring it to market later this year. At the moment I am in the late development stages and am soon to begin beta testing with a small group of users.

If you are reading this, good thing you subscribe to the Camelot newsletter because you are my first to know VIPs 😉 Lucky you!

What is it? It’s in stealth mode for now but stay tuned! I will be sharing about my journey as a solo female founder bringing a product to market on social media. You can find me on Instagram @camscamelot. For now enjoy the fireworks, and if you’re feeling frisky make some of your own!
